Pick-Up 044: Ain’t No Mountain High
Hello friends,
As always, hope this email finds you well.
Do you know the “ain’t no mountain high enough” song? 🎵Come on sing along:
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
would...get…me…from hmmm…to you, baby! (you don’t know that part either, don’t ya!)
Anyway, apparently, the meaning of the song wasn’t intended to be as it ended up being eventually. It comes up as a dialogue between two “babies” promising one another that they’ll be there for each other. Lol! But the real story behind these lyrics is about a determination to achieve a goal. The songwriter Nick Ashford was an unknown musician living in New York with a dream to hit it big. One day as he was looking up at the city’s tremendously tall skyscrapers, he came up with the phrase ain’t no mountain high enough to express the strong will he had to fulfill his dream. It was hinted at with those lines;
No wind, no rain
Or winter’s cold can stop me baby,
’Cause you are my goal.
So now you have two messages; the original one about the needed tenacity to achieve one’s dreams and the direct one about showing support for the people we love when they need us.
But it’s funny how both messages, though seemingly divergent, can still correlate.
When we’re on our way to achieving our dreams, we will most definitely slip and stumble in our climb, you know the usual setbacks and low points. It is these particular moments that reveal the people who truly love us from those who pretend. It’s no secret that when the person reaches the summit everyone will want to hang around and be around…but those who stick to these words:
If you need me call me no matter
where you are
No matter how far don’t worry baby
Just call my name I’ll be there in
a hurry
You don’t have to worry
’Cause baby there ain’t no mountain
high enough
…are the ones to keep. So make sure you cultivate those relationships and always let these people know how much you appreciate them and how grateful you are for them being part of your life.
You’re going to go listen to it right now aren’t you? And that if it ain’t the case already.
The phrase I mumbled as you sang along earlier is:
To keep me from getting to you babe!
If we’re not that close, I don’t mean it. But if you hit reply,
Ain’t no task important enough
To keep me from getting back to you, babe! 😜
Take good care.
Xx.
