Pick-Up 039: I'm Optimistic
Hey friends,
Hope this email finds you well.
This week I’ve been reading “The psychology of Money” (since I have plenty, lol!).
I haven’t finished it yet but I wanted to share an interesting definition I came across in the book.
“Optimism is usually defined as a belief that things will go well. But that’s incomplete. Sensible optimism is a belief that the odds are in your favor, and over time things will balance out to a good outcome even if what happens in between is filled with misery. And in fact you know it will be filled with misery. You can be optimistic that the long-term growth trajectory is up and to the right, but equally sure that the road between now and then is filled with landmines, and always will be.”
I’m definitely in that “misery” filled situation in regard to many initiated projects in my life at the moment. Reading this was comforting. I liked how it redefined this term for me. I came to a point where, in my mind, it became paired with an attitude of naivety. It’s definitely De Botton’s influence who’s a “pessimism” advocate. He describes optimism as the greatest flaw of the modern world. But I don’t think his view goes against this new definition.
Concerning my situation, I’m optimistic things will turn out just fine inshaAllah. Keep me in your prayers though.
Hope you’ve found this useful.
Take good care. Byyye! Xx
